Baked Book vol.11
The shapes created by her hands are so modest that it feels strange to call them pottery. It is the opposite of fashion and artistry.
The series of works we will be introducing this time, "Baked Book" is like a book that has just been taken out of the oven. A page from a book that seems to be blown into the air by the wind, captures a momentary event that reminds us of washi paper that has been burnt to ashes.
Its mysterious texture, which looks like paper but is not paper at first glance, is due to the material used. When the surface of a piece of Japanese paper is coated with deyusho (a liquid mixture of clay and water that looks like mud) and laid out on a board to dry, the piece of paper warps and rolls up as it dries. The changes are like wet, wavy paper.
When the dried pieces of paper are unglazed, a thin piece of porcelain clay is formed that transcribes the expression of the washi, but at the same time the washi is burned away, leaving only its shadow. The instantaneous form of the paper and the way it changes its expression over time is like the layering of time that knows no bounds.
The “Baked Book” will continue to change its expression from moment to moment as it catches the wind that blows through it, accompanying our passing time.

Artist Message
In the process of creation, I observe the materials carefully, there is an experience of my senses and matter intertwining with each other, becoming intimately involved with my motives. The objects created in this way can be seen as the prototypes of the way people make things in order to live in the world, and they are a way of imagining a timeless space and time, and of realizing something that has been passed down from generation to generation in the human body.
