Frágil
This book was created for the exhibition titled "Mudanza (Moving)." The theme of the book, "moving," does not refer to moving house, but rather to the movement of artworks between the artist's production site and the exhibition venue for the exhibition.
The book, which aims to convey the sequence of events involved in the moving of the works, contains 39 works (from the "Pintura entre Bastidores" series) that Miguel actually packed for the exhibition in various locations in Spain and Portugal. The color of the paper used for the body of the book was chosen to closely resemble the color of the packaging materials, thus providing a more intimate sense of the exhibition's essence. The works wrapped in the packaging paper question us about their indiscriminate nature, objectivity, or fairness. They seem to be gently wrapped or just inorganically covered.
Common to all of Raum Editions' books is their unique method of artistic expression and their discussion of archiving or cataloging. All of their subjects and materials are physical objects, especially those that are familiar and accessible to the artists themselves. Whether it is the "Fragile" stickers that are slapped on exhibition transport, or the packing paper that is used to ship books, for Miguel they are all insignificant materials, and the act of producing a catalog is art in itself.
