For every hole in the wall
A jewel to be born
Documentation of a performance that took place on December 31, 2019, at the Raum Press Studio in Salamanca, Spain. Up until that time, every time the artist Miguel made a hole in the wall of the exhibition space to hang his work, he always put an envelope just below the hole with masking tape to prevent dust from scattering on the floor. Before long, it began to feel like a ritual, and I realized that there was an aspect of physical documentation. He then decided to make this book, Light Fall of Dust.
It seems a bit like Korean photographer Koo Bohnchang's documentation of used soap. Koo Bohnchang's soap is personal, whereas Miguel's dust is public. If it is personal, I am afraid that he would make a book on the inconsequential (he would be offended if I said that) dust in the public.
You may think about the sad dust, or if you are planning to exhibit your work, you may use it as a reference for the next time you make a hole in the wall. I was reminded that the existence of dust is indeed a part of the act of art.
