The first friend I ever met was Barbara Sansoni.Barbara Sansoni One was a mouse doll given to me by my mother, and the other was a rabbit doll given to me by Samiro Yunoki. These two are the ones I've known the longest.

When I create things, I dream of creating something that no one would want to throw away, something that will last for thousands of years, like Greek and Roman designs. Or, I would be very happy if I could create something that would accompany someone throughout their life.

In this age of ever-accelerating times, things are made and disappear one after another. But there are certainly some things that never disappear. I think carefully about what those things are while I'm making things.

Before I knew it, the clothes of both the mouse and the rabbit had disappeared, and now they were standing naked, side by side. I wonder what clothes they were wearing. For the two of them who will be together for the rest of their lives, I chose a colored paper by drawing out memories from the past.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
