Among those facing death,
To nurture eternal new life.
That is the purpose of love.
What is the God of Love (Eros)? Plato / B.C.427~B.CThis is discussed in the Symposium by Socrates (347): "Socrates, all human beings are in a state of conception, both in body and in soul." Here, it is the disciples who teach Socrates about love:Diotima of Mantinea. She was the teacher of Socrates and a female philosopher.
In soul terms, she is also in a state of pregnancy.
This sentence has stayed in my mind.
According to Diotima, whether female or male, the soul becomes pregnant. In other words, it is the desire to "create and create something immortal," and once pregnant, the soul searches for the best partner to share its wisdom. And with that encounter, the new life = wisdom is nurtured perpetually.
Rivotorto Pieces works to weave together the ideals of the two artists. It may seem strange that they talk about their work in the first person, but there may be some homage to Diotima.
Diotima teaches us that the purpose of love is to nurture eternal new life in those who are facing death.
It is impossible for anything to remain unchanged. Whether it be the body, memories, emotions, or even time, the old nurtures the new, and the new also becomes old, and the cycle repeats.
This never-ending cycle of perpetual life is woven using two types of paper. As a creator of new things, I racked my brains to make it something beautiful and good.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
