The observer's arbitrary judgment
I especially dislikedDedicated to Vuillard,
A tapestry made from five different types of paper.
It is often said that Édouard Vuillard (1868-1940) was a modest and taciturn man. "He never spoke definitive words, because he thought they might be wrong," recalled Jan Verkade (1868-1946), who was also a member of the Nabis. I like the character of Vuillard that has been described in this way, and I have enjoyed observing the people and interiors of his paintings from the artist's point of view.
The artist's mother, the seamstress who works in her studio, his friends and people close to him... the wall decorations and furnishings, desks and chairs, carpets, vases and coffee cups that fill the surrounding area... none of these have precise shapes, but the painting is filled with color, evenly painted to every corner, and the motifs are tightly structured like a woven tapestry.
In his later years, realistic portraits were painted with as much detail as the people in the room, or even more so. Although the style of each painting is different, at their roots Vuillard's own modest personality is reflected. I think he captured things from a perspective that did not arbitrarily discriminate.
"...I am nothing more than a mere spectator," Vuillard said, predicting abstract painting.
The work speaks to me more than the artist. I observed Vuillard's paintings and borrowed the amazing colors to weave the paper. However, Vuillard would probably hate to be talked about like this. In 1938,
In ParisAt the time of the retrospective, he was the kind of person who exclaimed, "It's horrible, all my secrets are being revealed!" So, that's where the story of Vuillard ends.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
