Dedicated to the people who lived in Masudajir Cave.
Falling out of 24 types of paper
Fragments of paper.
A large number of flat pebbles discovered in the Mas d'Azil cave in France, an archaeological site believed to date back to around 9000 BC, were painted with a variety of lines and dots using reddish-brown pigment.

What these things mean and how they were used remain unclear even among researchers. However, it may be certain that they were the forerunners of the act of writing.
There also seems to be the beginnings of a kind of design.
The size and shape of the pebbles, the pigments used, the writing implements, the method of marking, variations... I think a fair amount of planning is required to mark many pebbles in the same way.
In an era when individuals did not yet have names, it must have been no easy task to plan and inscribe an individual's will or something to identify them from the body onto another object.
In the age of hunting, the signs that they sent out into the world through writing, a communication method much slower than language, and even though they risked their lives, tell us, even across the long centuries, that they were "once there." They may also be a seed for understanding the cause and effect of our being "here and now" in the present day.
Even if the meaning or purpose is lost, we do not want to overlook the fact that someone's will is certainly present in the small actions that remain in objects, even in these small scraps of paper that have fallen out of the 24 types of paper and lost their meaning.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
