"Guernica"With respect to
Weave dark blue paper.

I think I have a strong respect for Picasso (Pablo Picasso/1881-1973). I travel to Japan and abroad to see his works. There are so many of my favorite works, including the "Las Meninas" series at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, "Portrait d'Olga in an Armchair" at the Musée National Picasso in Paris, and "Portrait de Dora Maar" at the National Museum of Western Art.

Still, I think about and dwell on Guernica, which I have yet to see in person, more than any other work I have seen so far.

The shocking truth behind Harada Maha's theme for "Guernica in the Dark." It was the day in February 2003 when a dark blue cloth was placed over the Guernica tapestry behind him at a press conference at the UN Security Council. Even now, events like the covering of anti-war symbols are happening all over the world. More than 80 years have passed since Picasso painted it, but the world has not changed. I wonder what Picasso would think. It makes me feel sad.

"Guernica" is not just a work of art to be admired. What were the thoughts behind the exhibition at the Paris World's Fair?World's Fair, Paris, 1937When you imagine Picasso exhibiting this work at the exhibition, it is impossible to imagine covering it with a cloth.

Every day I gaze upon this dark blue painting, as if to cast a curtain over the pain that Picasso bore.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
