Weaving light that envelops the Morris Room.
From one decoration
For work, for space, for life, for society.

I have to confess that when I have seen William Morris (1834-1896) in exhibitions or through illustrations, I have only been able to appreciate his flat decorative tastes and have never been truly moved by them.

That all changed when I went on a trip to London.Victoria and Albert Museum(Victoria and Albert Museum)The Morris Room" In the space, which was completely enveloped in green, light poured in through the elaborate glass windows, illuminating the walls on which olive ornaments stood out. Even on the walls in shadow, there were many decorations of animals, flowers, and the like, and the room was almost entirely enveloped in some kind of design. All of them were heavy and artistic, but had soft, gentle edges.

Everyone in the room had a certain poetic air about them, and seemed beautiful as part of the same space. I think this kind of richness was what Morris aimed for from the beginning. From a single decoration to work, space, life, and society, he continued to seek the recovery of the human spirit.

It may be difficult to recreate this in a Japanese home with a different climate, but I recall the light and greenery of the Morris Room and weave the paper.

Rivotorto Pieces will hold their first solo exhibition, "Passage of Paper Textile". The works are named after the two artists' ancestors whom they have admired since childhood. They feature people from all over the world, past and present, such as saints, picture book authors, and architects. Saint Francis of Assisi, Atsuko Suga, Leo Lionni and Tokujiro Kojima, Bernard of Chartres, Tintoretto, Dante, Giotto, Seiichi Shirai, Sotatsu Tawaraya, William Morris, Édouard Vuillard, Pierre Bonnard, Montaner, Michelangelo, Hermes, Diotima, Barbara Sansoni, Hergé, Hiroshi Yoshino, Rousseau, Frederick II, Simone Weil, Aldo Manuzio, Picasso, and the man from the Masdazil Cave. The messages that accompany each work, detailing encounters with each person, are also quite interesting.
