The burnt "Just Paper" on all four sides is actually our longest-selling product, selling consistently for the longest time. We started selling it in 2002, when we moved to Omotesando. A customer said that he was thinking of doing a graphic design using old magazine clippings, but couldn't find a suitable aged support. We showed him some old straw paper that happened to have arrived with something else, and he was very pleased with it.

A surprising range of people, from designers to artists (who use burnt paper and paraffin in a wide range of applications, including collages, objects, and drawings), agree that even if you try to replicate the look with onion skins or tea, you won't get the same aged look. The changes brought about by the passage of time can only be achieved over time.

I've been dealing with old straw paper and western paper, but this is the first time I've received such a large amount of paraffin paper (glassine paper). It's a large, easy-to-use size, and looks like it will be very useful.

Is it okay to put a price on a piece of paper that has been burned on all sides and sell it? I'm sure there are people who think so. We scoop up usable parts from products that have passed their expiration date, such as sample books, catalogs, flyers, tickets, and magazines that would have been discarded as trends changed, that would have been thrown away as soon as they had served their purpose. I think we are actually doing something not so different from the work of a second-hand bookstore.

Furthermore, if we consider that the thing that secondhand bookstores deal with is "time," would it be a bit of an exaggeration to say that plain paper or paraffin that has been burnt on all sides is actually the most common product that secondhand bookstores deal with?
