The act of reading is at the root of artist Aya Coizumi's work. Reading books, encountering the unknown, and learning about the structure and origins of the world are her driving forces. She freely connects the two realms of books as material and words and stories that open up time and space, creating unique box works and other works as a semblance of the book, which she calls “Close and Open". Fragile Books will introduce the world of Aya Coizumi's works as a new way of expressing books.

コイズミアヤ（Aya Coizumi）
1971年、東京生まれ。美術家。1990年、東京都立芸術高校を卒業。武蔵野美術大学造形学部空間演出デザイン学科で、舞台美術デザインを学ぶ。1994年に卒業し、本格的な美術作品の制作をはじめる。1996年から東京のギャラリーを中心に、定期的に個展を開催。2009年、新潟県長岡市に移住し、新潟や金沢でも発表をはじめ、創作活動を続けている。

Born in Tokyo in 1971. Graduated from Tokyo Metropolitan Art High School in 1990 and studied stage design at Musashino Art University's Department of Spatial Production Design. In 1994, she graduated from Musashino Art University, where she majored in scenography and design, and began to produce art works in earnest. In 2009, she moved to Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, where she has been showing his works in Niigata and Kanazawa.
